The Adriatic Mediterranean Festival 2013 will take place in Ancona, with the partnership of the AII Permanent Secretariat, from August 24 to August 30.
As a well-established tradition, the inauguration will be hosted by the AII Permanent Secretariat at its seat of the Cittadella Fortress in Ancona.
Among other cultural activities of the festival, it is worth to note the following which involve artists coming from AII countries:
- Concert of Boris Kovac (Serbia);
- Animation Cinema with Daniel Suljic, Art Director of Animafest of Zagreb (Croatia);
- Concert of Evievan Rebetiko (Greece).
To celebrate the recent accession of Croatia to the European Union, the guest of honor will be the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Italy, H.E. Damir Grubisa, diplomat, historian, political analyst of international reputation. Ambassador Grubisa will inaugurate the Festival with the Secretary General Amb. Fabio Pigliapoco at the presence of local authorities and will receive the Adriatic-Mediterranean Prize for its contribution to dialogue in the region.
The AII Chairmanship of the Republic of Albania (June 2013 - May 2014) has defined its calendar of activities which is enclosed to the present article.
The XIII edition of the Forum of the Adriatic Ionian Chambers of Commerce was held in Medjugorje from 14 to 16 May.
In this occasion, a Declaration of Intent was signed by the Executive Secretariats of the Adriatic Ionian civil society Fora (Cities and Towns, Chambers of Commerce, UniAdrion) and the AII Permanent Secretariat.
Such a Declaration (enclosed to this article) marks the beginning of a closer cooperation among them by establishing an "Integrated Secretariat" that will be capable to channel the needs and indication of civil societies to the eight AII Governments and the European Commission. The new instrument will not add any financial burden to all institutions involved.
The XV Adriatic Ionian Council, concluding the Slovenian AII year of Chairmanship, was held on May 27 in Brussels.
The representatives of the eight Governments of the AII, chaired by the Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Erjavec, approved the Brussels Declaration 2013 which welcomed the significant progress of regional cooperation in the Adriatic Ionian basin achieved with particular regards to the progress in the process of establishing the "EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region".
High level officials of the European Commission informed Ministers about the ongoing procedures and process that will bring to the final approval of the EUSAIR by the end of 2014.
Furthermore, the establishment of an "Integrated Secretariat" between the AII Permanent Secretariat and the Executive Secretariats of the Adriatic Ionian Fora of civil society, as well as the prosecution of the Regional Cooperation Programme approved last year, were highly appreciated by Governments.

The XI Conference of the Presidents of Parliaments of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative organised by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia in the framework of one-year Slovenian chairmanship took place in Brdo pri Kranju on Monday, 13 May 2013. The conference was hosted by Janko Veber, President of the National Assembly, and chairman-in-office of the parliamentary part of the Initiative. Among others, Mr. Krivokapic, the President of the Montenegrin Parliament and the Mr. Di Maio, the vice president of the Italian Parliament took part in the meeting giving their important contribution to the debate.
In the conference debate, the presidents and other high parliamentary representatives focused on topical issues related to the shaping of macroregions in the EU, with special emphasis on the development of the Adriatic and Ionian macroregion and the contribution by the parliaments in such processes.
The delegates decided to establish ad hoc delegation to the Adriatic Ionian Initiative. The first such meeting should take place in Autumn under Albanian Delegation.
