The meeting “Mid-term Evaluation of the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in AII member states”, organized within the framework of the AII/EUSAIR Chairmanship of Bosnia and Herzegovina took place in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 4-5 May 2023.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the Government of Republika Srpska, the BH Council for Monitoring and Evaluation of the SDG Agenda 2030 implementation, the AII Permanent Secretariat and the United Nations and UNDP Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference has been an opportunity to have a regional analysis of the state of play of the Agenda 2030 implementation process in our 10 countries, taking into account that we are at the midterm of the period since SDGs were adopted in September 2015 until 2030. The implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Adriatic-Ionian Region is indeed an important cross-cutting issue for the BiH Chairmanship.

The meeting was addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Βosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Emledin Konakovic, the Chairwoman of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ms. Zelika Cjivanovic, the Head of the Permanent Secretariat in Ancona Amb. Fabio Pigliapoco, the representative of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), of the Central European Initiative (CEI), and of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

An experts’ panel, moderated by Ambassador at Large Milos Prica, BiH MFA, discussed possible solutions and challenges ahead with respect to SDGs’ implementation.

The meeting also included a regional analysis of the state of play of the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda in the Member States of the AII. Governmental representatives from the AII countries presented results and challenges regarding the SDGs’ implementation process.

The gathering ended with a round table on the localisation of the SDGs, the conclusions of which will be presented at the High-level Political Forum 2023 to be held in New York in July.
